Forestry, Africa and Climate Change Protocol

چکیده
Joint Implementation (JI) was a concept developed by the Conference of Parties (CoP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to help reduce the level of greenhouse gases, particularly CO2, in the global atmosphere. In JI projects, an organisation in a developed country invests in an organisation in a less developed country with the aim of reducing atmospheric greenhouse gases. It is seen as a commercial transaction in which both parties stand to benefit. The recipient country organisation obtains modern technology which would otherwise be unaffordable, but which may have other advantages, e.g. it may reduce energy consumption and thus production costs. The developed country organisation gains in respect of the obligations under which it is put, by its own government, to reduce greenhouse gases.

Adaptation of Forests to Climate Change: Some Estimates
This paper is based on a World Bank–sponsored effort to develop a global estimate of adaptation costs, considering the implications of global climate change for industrial forestry. It focuses on the anticipated impacts of climate change on forests broadly, on industrial wood production in particular, and on Brazil, South Africa, and China. The aim is to identify likely damages and possible mit...
متن کاملSelection of Provenances to Adapt Tropical Pine Forestry to Climate Change on the Basis of Climate Analogs
Pinus patula and Pinus tecunumanii play an important role in the forestry sector in the tropics and subtropics and, in recent decades, members of the International Tree Breeding and Conservation Program (Camcore) at North Carolina State University have established large, multi-site provenance trials for these pine species. The data collected in these trials provide valuable information about sp...
متن کاملClimate change effects on economic growth: mixed empirical evidence
West Africa is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. This paper analyzed the impacts of climate change on economic growth in Anglophone West Africa with similar background, during the periods 1969-2016. Five growth model equations have been developed to incorporate climate change variables into the model. Panel data estimations such as the fixed effect model, random effect model and Haus...
متن کاملHydrologic responses of watershed assessment to land cover and climate change using soil and water assessment tool model
Predicting the impact of land cover and climate change on hydrologic responses using modeling tools are essential in understanding the movement and pattern of hydrologic processes within the watershed. The paper provided potential implications of land conversions and climate change scenarios on the hydrologic processes of Muleta watershed using soil and water assessment tool model. Model inputs...
متن کاملThe Role of Earth Observation in the Good Practice Guidance for Reporting Land Use, Land-use Change and Forestry Activities as Specified by the Kyoto Protocol
The Good Practice Guidance for Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (GPG-LULUCF), published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is laid out to assist countries in preparing their greenhouse gas inventories by providing definitions and methodological advice especially for the sector land use, land-use change and forestry. This paper gives a short review of GPG-LULUCF, pres...
